Every event has one date that decides everything, and a ticket page that has to fill before it. This fall, that date is competing with everyone else's. Concerts and festivals, football season, conferences, comedy tours, and holiday shows that go on sale in October all want the same evenings and the same people.
The people who buy those tickets are out in the city: heading to dinner, to the arena, to the theater district, to the convention center. That's where your next show needs to be in front of them.
Why cars fit events
- Your audience is already on its way out. Rideshare and taxi cars spend their evenings around arenas, stadiums, theaters and nightlife districts, the places people who buy tickets already go.
- An event is built around a date. Flights start and end around the run-up, and a screen ad can change as show day gets closer.
- The ticket is one scan away. In Nielsen's 2019 Out-of-Home Advertising Study, 42% of smartphone owners had searched for an advertiser after seeing an out-of-home ad, and one in five had scanned a QR code, tapped an NFC tag or sent a text. Put the ticket page in the QR code and skip the search.
What each format does for an event
In-vehicle screens. Screens are available by market and running in market today. Your trailer or announcement plays captioned, with a QR code generated from your ticket page. TripIntent® puts your ad first in cars around entertainment and sports, and when the driver's destination is one, and a time-of-day priority puts it first in the evenings. Neither shrinks where your ad can play. You pay only for validated impressions: plays confirmed in a working car out on the road. Plays that can't be confirmed are free.
Vehicle wraps. A wrap for a season, a tour or a venue people should know by sight. Full and partial custom wraps are designed with Vugo and the wrap shop. A Standard Wrap, both sides and the rear window, is bought in Vugo Platform and starts at least 14 days after you submit. Wraps are recruited per campaign in most U.S. metros and run two months or more, so they fit a season or a long run-up better than a single night.
Swarms. On show night or game day, a swarm brings the campaign's wrapped cars into a zone around the venue, or along the route to it, for the hours before the doors open and after the crowd leaves.
What it looks like in practice
When the Bitcoin 2022 conference came to Miami Beach in April 2022, Vugo ran it on wraps, digital rooftop displays and in-vehicle screens across the city, each with a QR code to the ticket page. Wrapped cars swarmed Miami Beach around the convention center, and programmatic mobile retargeting followed up with people who had visited the ticket page. The conference and its music festival sold out. Read the case study.
Award shows work nationwide. Dick Clark Productions has run on Vugo screens for the American Music Awards, the Academy of Country Music Awards, the Billboard Music Awards and the YouTube Streamy Awards, and has renewed five times. Each show gets its own creative, and for the Streamys the content was scheduled to change as show day approached. Read the case study.
Five plays for events

- The on-sale push. Tickets just went on sale, and the fans who buy early need to hear about it first. Put the announcement on screens with a QR code to tickets, first around entertainment and sports, in every market your audience comes from.
- The final weeks. Swap in new creative as the date gets close: the lineup, the opening act, "two weeks away", "last tickets". Lean on the evening priority, when people are making plans.
- Show night in force. Swarm the blocks around the venue for the hours before the doors open. Fans arriving see your brand from every direction, and next season's announcement is on the cars.
- A season or a venue. For a venue's fall calendar, a theater season or your local team's home games, wraps keep the name on the street for months, not days. Pair them with a screen campaign, add your venue, and Vugo counts the working cars in its network that passed nearby, were headed there or arrived. It's a signal of your campaign around the venue, not a count of ticket buyers.
- The conference in its host city. For a convention or trade show, run screens and wraps in the host city in the weeks before, and swarm the convention center at arrival and departure times.
Show the full ticket price
If your ad shows a ticket price, show the total. Since May 12, 2025, the FTC's rule on unfair or deceptive fees has required anyone advertising a live-event ticket price to show the total price, including all mandatory fees. The simplest path on a car or a screen is to leave the price off and let the ticket page do the work, or to show the all-in total. Your counsel can tell you how the rule applies to your event.
One more rule from Vugo's Content Guidelines: no deliberately loud noises or flashing lights, for passenger and driver safety. Build the spot so captions carry it, with or without sound.
Before you start
- The event and the date that decides everything.
- The markets your audience comes from. One city, or every city on the tour.
- The run-up. How many weeks before the date the campaign starts, and when the creative changes.
- A ticket page that works on a phone. UTM tags go on every QR code, so each scan shows up in your own analytics.
- How you'll judge it. Scans and ticket sales, side by side.
