Most people bank on their phones now. In the American Bankers Association's 2025 survey, 54% of bank customers said an app on a phone or other mobile device was their top way to manage their account. Only 9% named a branch.

So why put a bank on the street? Because the account gets opened on a phone, but the choice of where to open it is still about trust, and trust starts with a name people recognize. A wrapped car keeps your bank or credit union in view across the communities you serve. A screen in the back seat puts the phone step, opening the account or booking the meeting, one scan away.

Why cars fit banks and credit unions

Banking is local even when it's digital. A community bank serves the towns around its branches. A credit union serves its members: a county, a set of employers, a community it was founded for. Rideshare, taxi and delivery cars drive exactly those neighborhoods, past the branches, the grocery stores and the main streets, all day.

And spring is full of money moments:

  • Tax-refund season, now through April 15. Refunds land, and people decide where to put them.
  • Home-buying season. Spring is when listings and showings pick up, and buyers start looking for a lender.
  • Graduations and first jobs. May and June bring first paychecks, and first accounts.
  • Branch openings. A new branch needs its neighborhood to know it's there.

What each format does for a bank or credit union

Wraps put your name on working cars across your market. A Standard Wrap covers both sides of the car and the rear window: you design once on 1:10 templates, a professional shop installs it on every car, and the start date is at least 14 days after you submit. Full and partial custom wraps turn the whole car into your brand. Vugo recruits drivers for each wrap campaign in the metro you choose, and most wrap campaigns run two to six months, long enough for a name to become familiar.

Swarms bring your wrap campaign's cars to one place for the hours you schedule: the blocks around a new branch in its opening week, or a community festival you sponsor.

In-vehicle screens play a short video with a QR code to your account or appointment page in the back seat of rideshare and taxi cars, in the markets where screens are available. Add a branch address and a radius, and your ad plays only inside it, or run it across the metro. TripIntent® can also put your ad first in cars around the places that fit it, such as education for a first-account offer near campus. It's a priority, never a filter.

Rooftop displays put your message on top of the car, lit and in view of the street.

Programmatic mobile can follow up with people who visited your account page from the QR code, across other apps and sites, managed by Vugo, your agency or your own team.

A financial brand across Miami

In November and December 2021, Dash ran ads for its DashDirect app on Vugo rooftop displays across the Miami market, through Art Basel. The campaign covered greater Miami, from Doral, home to one of the largest Venezuelan communities in the U.S., to Miami Beach and up toward Fort Lauderdale. The plan called for 7.5 million impressions. The campaign delivered 10,140,243, 35% more than planned, which brought the effective cost per thousand impressions to about $5.92, against $8 planned. Read the Dash case study.

The lesson for a bank or credit union is reach across a whole community, including the neighborhoods a branch map might miss.

No rider profiles

Financial institutions are careful with data, so it's worth saying plainly: screens don't sense who is in the car, and Vugo doesn't build profiles of riders. Your ad is placed by where the car is and when, not by who is sitting in it. What you learn comes from the people who choose to scan and visit your page.

Five plays for spring

  1. The refund account. From now to tax day, run screens with a QR code to open a savings account or a certificate. If the ad states a rate, it states the APY too.
  2. The new branch. Schedule a swarm so your wrapped cars fill the blocks around a new branch in its opening week, and run screens in a radius around it with a QR code to book an appointment.
  3. Home season. A wrap through spring with your home-loan message, and a QR code to meet a loan officer. Home-loan ads carry Equal Housing Lender.
  4. First accounts. Put a student or first-account offer on screens with TripIntent's education context, first in cars around campuses as graduation gets close.
  5. The community name. A Standard Wrap with your name and one line, across the neighborhoods your branches serve or the community your credit union was founded for, for two months or more.

Disclosure language

Financial ads can need disclosures such as Member FDIC or Federally insured by NCUA, Equal Housing Lender on home-loan ads, and the APY or APR when an ad states a rate. Your institution stays responsible for its ad meeting those rules, so bring your compliance team in before the design is final. Vugo reviews every ad against its own Content Guidelines before it runs.

On a wrap, plan room for that language inside the template's safe area from the start, rather than fitting it in at the end.

Before you start

A four-step plan under "A plan for banks and credit unions: A spring plan, from refunds to home loans.": Week 1, pick the product, savings, a rate or a home loan; week 2, screens on the road, QR codes to open an account; week 3, wraps arrive, your name on every car; month 3, read the results, scans, accounts, appointments.
From tax season to home season.
  • Pick the product to lead with. An account, a rate or a loan. One per ad reads best.
  • Choose the communities. The branches to focus on, or your credit union's whole field of membership.
  • Make the page work on a phone. Opening an account or booking a meeting, one tap from the QR code. A page only the ad points to lets your own analytics show what it brought in.
  • Set the dates. Around tax season, home season or a branch opening, and at least two months for wraps.
  • Decide how you'll judge it. Scans, applications and appointments.

Wraps are priced per car per month, screens by budget, and every campaign is quoted for its format, market and dates.
